With over 20+ years of experience as an in-house interpreter/translator/transcriptionist and educator in various organizations, in the US, Spain, Argentina, and the UK, I am able to tackle a variety of language related projects. Some of my skills include, proofing as well as formal and casual translation and interpreting between English and Spanish-speaking communities.
I am a native bilingual who has resided in Spain, Argentina, the UK and the USA. I was born in Buenos Aires, from Anglo/Argentine parents, and am fluent in Spanish and English since early childhood. I hold certificates from Cambridge University Overseas Branch, the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Madrid, and a Fine Arts Degree from Covenant Life Music Conservatory, BC. Canada. I have done many hours of live interpretation in either language, mainly in the realm of independent business, educational and ecclesiastical organizations. Thus, I have been in contact with people from varied cultural backgrounds, where being bilingual has proven to be a valuable asset. My aim is to maintain a professional and open relationship by working within my client’s budget and time constraints. I believe you will find my rates to be reasonable and I am open to negotiation for a final quote, which is agreeable to both parties. You can find my CV and work resume attached. Please do not hesitate in contacting me if you believe I would be an asset to your teamwork project. I would love to hear from you. Sincerely Silvia Griselda Buongiorne. |
Greetings From Alaska
I would like to be considered as a translation resource for you mainly because you are a Bible based organization. I have done many hours of simultaneous interpretation for visiting missionaries, pastors and teachers who regularly visit our church communities from all over the world, and who have need of my particular skill set. I have also been involved in translating Christian printed material of various kinds, but I am getting ahead of myself, first, let me introduce myself.
I am Silvia Griselda Hanson Buongiorne and I was born into an Welsh/ Argentine/Italian family, basically a mix of Catholicism and Anglican Church of England. I used to go to the local Catholic Church with my Italian granny and to the local Anglican Church with my Welsh granny, while she still lived with us in Argentina. I guess you could say I was always involved in church activities, even as a teen I helped in Sunday school and such. I became a Christian at a Bible camp in Argentina; the folks behind the camp were associated with GOSPEL MISSIONS OF SOUTH AMERICA. That was back in the mid ‘60’s.
Depending on where I was living at any given time, Spain or the US, my translation experience has been and is, of the live interpreting variety since many visiting ministry either speak English or Spanish. I have been a voluntary “in house” interpreter for many years. Some of the traveling ministers want their teachings translated into Spanish/English and I have experience with that as well.
I have been associated with my home church for over 26 years now, having moved from Spain to Alaska to marry the man who is my husband. WE have 4 grown children.
At present I am a Spanish instructor at Living Word Academy, here in Dry Creek Alaska, as well as primary teacher at the local school and an in house Spanish/English interpreter and translator at Living Word Ministries, which is also, where my family and I attend church regularly. Missionary work has always been part of my family and although I have not had much opportunity to go on the mission field myself, I have always wanted to serve in some capacity. My uncle and aunt who are now in their 80’s are still active in their mission work to the Roma people of Spain and Cyprus.
During my down time, I enjoy translating, reading my Bible in Spanish, spending time with some of the senior citizens in the church, visiting with friends and family, traveling, making video and photo slideshows for folks who want them, snow shoeing in the woods, biking on the Alaska Highway with my kids (when they want to join me!), fishing, hiking, photography and gardening.
I hope this gives you a small picture of who I am. Please do not hesitate to ask me for more information. Looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Blessings from Alaska
